Champa's Creative Inspiration
At Champa's slow fashion brand in Siem Reap, Cambodia, every stitch tells a story.
Each unique style and one-of-a-kind design is born from a deep passion for creativity, sustainability, and the rich cultural heritage of our nation. The inspiration behind our handcrafted fashion comes from many sources, but at its heart is the vision and dedication of our founder, Chhuon Champa.
Champa's journey into the world of slow fashion began in childhood. Born in Prey Veng Cambodia, she was captivated by the transformative power of clothing. Instead of accepting mass-produced garments at face value, she felt compelled to reimagine them, to add her own personal touch, and to transform them into something more interesting and expressive. This early fascination with altering and embellishing clothes sparked a lifelong passion for custom clothing and unique fashion pieces.
As Champa grew, she became increasingly aware of the environmental and social impact of the fashion industry. Disheartened by the unsustainable practices of fast fashion, she embraced the principles of slow fashion, prioritising ethical fashion, sustainable fashion, and eco-conscious clothing. This commitment to responsible fashion led her to establish her slow fashion brand in Siem Reap, Cambodia, a place where she could create beautiful, handmade bags and clothing that honoured both people and the planet.
Champa's deep respect for local craftsmanship and traditional techniques is evident in every aspect of our brand. She actively collaborates with local artisans, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship that celebrates their skills and supports their livelihoods. Together, they create artisanal products that showcase the beauty of creative-craft, hand embroidery, hand-stitched patchwork, and other time-honoured techniques.
Beyond her design work, Champa is deeply committed to giving back to her community. She dedicates her time to teaching others sewing techniques, empowering them with valuable skills and creating opportunities for economic advancement. She also shares her knowledge and passion for fabric design with students, nurturing the next generation of Cambodian fashion designers. Her commitment to fair labour practices is evident in all of her endeavours.
Champa's unwavering dedication to zero waste fashion is another driving force behind the brand's ethos. She strives to minimise waste at every stage of the production process, and the waste that is created, is upcycled into other products. Fabric off-cuts are machine or handstitched into designs that are then added to hand bags, purse and clothing. It is her mission to ensure the longevity of our planet’s resources.
Unique fashion pieces are more than just products; they are a reflection of Champa's personal journey, her unwavering commitment to sustainability, and her deep love for the art and culture of Cambodia. When you wear a garment from our slow fashion brand, you are not only making a fashion statement but also supporting a vision for a more ethical and sustainable future. We invite you to explore the collection and discover the inspiration behind one-of-a-kind designs.
